Workshops

An Introduction to Irish Dancing
For those that would like to participate, An Dóchas and the Haran Dancers also offer an hour-long dance workshop. Attendees will be given a short show demonstration of the music and dance, be given a brief description of the different types of dances with musical and visual examples, and then participate in a question-and-answer session about the instruments, music and dance. Following that, those who wish to participate will be coached by the Haran dance team and will learn the basics of traditional Irish step dancing and Irish group dancing. It is a very hands-on workshop and is great for anyone who wants to try their hand at Irish Dancing or just experience a more in-depth perspective on the music and dance traditions of Ireland.

An Dóchas and the Haran Irish Dancers

An Dóchas, Irish for “The Hope,” is a young Irish band with cross-cultural influences, presenting traditional Irish music fused with the energy of Rock and the versatility of folk. A driving rhythm section of guitar, bass, and drums supports traditional instruments including the Uilleann pipes, whistles, Bodhrán, and fiddle. The band incorporates moving ballads as well as rowdy, adventurous vocals into their sets creating an emotionally dynamic performance to accompany explosive Irish step dancing.

The Haran Irish Dancers have been performing for over a decade in America, Austria, and Japan, and have had multiple appearances at the Irish Step Dancing World Championships.

Together, An Dóchas and the Haran Irish Dancers have performed to sold-out audiences throughout the U.S. An Dochas’ 2006 release, Dragonfly Redux, was awarded Celtic Instrumental Album of the Year by Just Plain Folks Worldwide Music Awards and the group is currently touring to promote their second album Rise.
