virtual self-defense training
4+ hours, for groups of up to 8
IMPACT trains colleagues, families, school groups - everyone can learn their straightforward self-defense techniques.
The dynamics of the world have changed and people are having to reassess complete aspects of their lives. The 6 feet of social distance guideline is the same that IMPACT has always taught during our boundary setting instruction, where we explain keeping 2 arms lengths between you and a possible assailant.
The content IMPACT teaches translates just as well to remote education platforms, and they currently stage all of their public classes online. A private, remote training allows for that much more attention to attendees' particular needs, while also spurring discussion among the familiar students. These classes have the same high quality and teach the student-focused methods you’ve come to expect from IMPACT.  They will allow students to learn and practice verbal strategies, boundary setting, basic physical movement, and other interactions with the instructors via live video.  Since we cannot gather in groups amid social distancing, the full-contact parts of class--including the scenario based, adrenaline-inducing fights--can be completed at a later date in the classroom or comparable setting,

Why Stories Matter: The Power of Storytelling During Quarantine
45 minutes plus Q&A
In this talk, Esteban dives into his personal journey and offers a more expansive approach to storytelling that goes beyond writers in LA, presenting a framework and questions to the everyone about the stories we believe about ourselves and the work that we do. If stories are how we shape the world around us, how can we be more intentional about finding and telling better stories in our everyday life. In a world where literally everyone has a platform and audience, how can we use that responsibility to heal the world? And today, stories have become more urgent. How countries and individuals respond to the unprecedented pandemic relies largely on the stories they hear and the stories they believe. How has storytelling hurt or helped individuals and communities the last few weeks? And what can the average person do about it?

Why it's more important than ever to think before you drink
45 minutes + Q&A

Alcohol sales have increased 54% since shelter-in-place started—the highest spike in 15 years. To Anna David, that’s not surprising.
David—sober almost 20 years after becoming addicted to drugs and alcohol—knows that one of the greatest contributors to alcoholism is isolation. After all, she spent the two years before she found sobriety by herself in her apartment doing cocaine and considering suicide. And that’s not the only role alcohol plays in isolation. A 2015 NIH study showed that early social isolation—in short, depriving rats from social play—increased the risk for addictive behavior. The study concluded that isolation, during a developmental period when social play is crucial, “enhances the propensity to consume alcohol in adulthood.”

Make no mistake: college students, no matter how mature, are still developing since the brain isn’t fully formed until the mid-20s. Given what the studies prove and science shows, it’s therefore not only possible but likely that the isolation we’re experiencing now will produce more alcoholics than ever before. And yet quarantine provides just as many opportunities for healthy behavior as unhealthy. Exercise classes are streaming around the clock. Experts are encouraging us to get outdoors. And home cooking, now that we can’t go to restaurants, has increased exponentially. In this encouraging and truthful talk, David examines why thinking before you drink is more relevant than ever and how it’s possible, with a few simple tips, to come out of this period of isolation stronger and healthier.
