Greetings, Valencia Community College’s Student Development would like to personally thank Stacey Lannert for presenting at our West campus last Thursday, April 15th. Stacey along with her mother arrived an hour early to prep and introduce themselves to myself and my student leaders. She was friendly and fun, with a big personality that made her so easy to talk to.
We had advertised 3 weeks prior to her presentation, and because it was not a mandatory admission were grateful to see an almost full auditorium. Orange County Rape Services along with our Peer Educators attended and set up a table for additional information on Sexual Assault and Rape violence. The turnout was large and receptive to her story and her message.
Stacey spoke for a full hour, and was kind enough to talk an extra 15 minutes at the end, to make sure she answered every question asked, she did not turn a single questions away. After her presentation, she welcomed the long line of students who wanted to talk privately with her and shake her hand. Although her presentation was scheduled for 1 full hour, she was talking with students for an hour and a half. This was so appreciated.

The show went great. Stacey gave the students a fair amount of statistical information as well as gave us a rundown of her story. She also stayed for a while after the show and talked to students, answered questions, etc. It was great meeting her and having her on campus!

Stacey’s performance was mind-opening. We did not get a large turn-out but the 75 students that did come were not our regular crowd. I was overcome by how connected her message was with our audience. The students who came to the event were humbled and gracious. I had multiple students come by my office the next day to tell me how much they appreciated her coming to our campus. I think her message and experience really hit home to a lot of individuals.

I'm not a victim of abuse, but it's still touching to listen to what you have to say, and I feel for your pain and guilt. Stacey was extremely easy to work with and such an inspirational person. We had the best turnout of the semester and the students left in awe. They are still talking about the program. Stacey has an extremely difficult story to tell but she relates it wonderfully to college students. While the topic is heavy she inserts just enough humor to make the audience more comfortable hearing what she has experienced. She took time to not only tell her story but to connect how students seeking particular degrees should be aware of warning signs when working with kids.
