Thank you for your fireside chat, broadcast at a conference for Brazilian undergraduate and graduate students in various health professions and disseminated broadly via the web to Portuguese speaking patient collectives, organizations in Brazil, Portugal and Portuguese speaking immigrant communities in Europe and beyond. Your talk was a highlight at the conference inspiring students to learn and o more about ME and Long Covid, and to recognize the power of patients to advance research and clinical practice. The broader audience marveled at your ability to convey dense scientific information in an approachable, understandable way. Your compassion and warmth, your compelling story and urgent call for patient engagement was uplifting and affirming. You left us feeling informed, hopeful and empowered.

I recommended Ryan to give a book talk to the Stanford Peninsula Alumni Club. He drew a voluminous turnout due to his reputation as a CNN reporter and the buzz generated around his book launch. During his lecture, I was impressed by his almost 'gubernatorial' presence. He was professional, charismatic, articulate, and uncommonly kind, with thoughtful answers to Stanford audience questions. He was equally adept in discussing cutting-edge genetics tests as he was in offering sage advice from stoic philosophers in dealing with suffering, and how to discover one's purpose in life. Ryan's performance with us led to invitations to speak at other Stanford alumni clubs around the country.

In this gripping, compassionate, and deeply reported narrative, Ryan Prior tells the story of Long Covid as it should be told, centering the experiences of people who predicted the condition, endured it, named it, and researched it. Long-haulers are the heroes of their own story, and this important book beautifully captures their struggle and their courage.

I've had low level nerve tingling symptoms ever since I got Covid in March 2020. I started to talk about it when I heard repeated stories of others whose more serious symptoms were being dismissed and doubted. Ryan Prior brings these stories to light, shows how patients' advocacy pushed research into causes and cures, and illuminates how many questions we still need to answer. A book we need right now.
